David Stano

JD, BA (Honours Class I)

David was admitted in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia in 2025. He has a Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Class I in English) from the University of Sydney.

David decided to study law when he needed legal advice on recording contracts offered by a major record label and an independent record label, and during that time was offered a scholarship to study the Juris Doctor. He has an interest in disputes and litigation in all areas of law and a particular interest in statutory and contract interpretation.

Expertise

  • acting for multiple defendants in three concurrent Federal Court proceedings involving interrelated debt and equity transactions;
  • acting for the defendant and cross-claimant in Supreme Court proceedings against an ASX-listed company; and
  • acting for the plaintiff in Supreme Court proceedings relating to a contractual dispute.
  • advising in relation to claims against a public university for negligence in relation to conduct of medical research; and
  • advising on statutory interpretation of the Commonwealth Electoral Act.
  • acting for the plaintiff in District Court proceedings relating to a claim for employee entitlements under a personal guarantee;
  • acting for a CEO in a potential employment and whistleblower dispute against a board of directors;
  • acting for the applicant employee in Fair Work Commission proceedings against a former employer; and
  • acting for an employer enforcing a restraint of trade.
  • advising numerous clients in relation to claims for trademark and copyright infringements.
  • acting for a director and shareholder of a media company in a shareholder dispute; and
  • advising directors on their directors duties’ in relation to large transactions, in group company situations and situations of financial distress.
  • independent compliance reviews of various ASX-listed and privately held companies pursuant to court orders and undertakings to the ACCC under the Competition and Consumer Act; and
  • acting for various clients in relation to claims made under the Australian Consumer Law.
  • advising witnesses in ASIC examinations in relation to the financial services industry.
