Hugo was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia in 2024. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business, Accounting (with Distinction) from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Hugo has interests in competition law, regulatory investigations and insolvency law. Hugo has been with Resolve since 2022, starting as a Paralegal.

Expertise

  • acting for an individual defendant in alleged cartel conduct proceedings commenced by the ACCC in the Federal Court of Australia;
  • acting for a small business in commencing misuse of market power proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia
  • against a large ASX-listed corporation; and
    acting for various clients in relation to claims made under the Australian Consumer Law.
  • advising officers, directors and employees of various large ASX-listed corporations in respect of examinations conducted by ASIC and the ACCC; and
  • advising various clients on matters involving other regulatory bodies and organisations including AFCA and the ATO.
  • successfully acting for a class of unitholders in a dispute and appeal over the priority of payments under the proper construction of a trust deed (significant investor visa trust) in the Supreme Court of Victoria and Victorian Court of Appeal: Shao & Ors v One Funds Management Ltd & Ors [2024] VSCA 231 on appeal from [2023] VSC 192 and [2023] VSC 251; and
  • acting for an individual in proceedings against an ASX-listed entity for breach of trust and misleading representations in the Federal Court of Australia.
  • acting for the CEO and CFO (named defendants) of an ASX-listed entity in general protection and whistleblower proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia.
  • successfully acting for the defendant in a legal professional privilege dispute in the Federal Court of Australia; and
  • acting in various shareholder and general commercial disputes involving directors’ duties, liquidation or winding up, misappropriation of company funds, capital raises, and share sales.
